It’s amazing to see Jupiter’s storms in motion.
Jupiter seen by Voyager 1 probe with blue filter. One image was taken every Jupiter day (approximately 10 hours). These pictures were taken from 01/06 to 02/03, 1979 ; and Voyager 1 flew from 58 million to 31 million kilometers from Jupiter during that time. The small, round, dark spots appearing in some frames are the shadows cast by the moons passing between Jupiter and the Sun, while the small, white flashes around the planet, are the moons themselves.

One of the loveliest manipulations I’ve ever seen of a GRS picture.
Jupiter’s Great Red Spot  - The Great Red Spot (GRS) is a persistent anticyclonic storm, 22° south of Jupiter’s equator, which has lasted for at least 181 years and possibly longer than 346 years.[65][66] The storm is large enough to be visible through Earth-based telescopes.

I love the tangled webs phylogentic trees become when two classification systems are in play.

Monotremes
I want to address this view by many, even those who love monotremes, that they are an oddity or primitive precursor to “modern” mammals. They are simply another group of mammals with different characteristics. There are I think some misunderstandings about them based on geographical bias and familiarity.. ok well, I think Ronald Strahan says it better:
“Monotremes differ from other mammals in laying eggs and lacking teats (they simply lactate from pores int he skin). Some aspects of their internal anatomy are also unique. Textbooks written in the northern hemisphere often state or imply that there has been an evolutionary progression from reptiles through monotremes and marsupials to the eutharians (placental mammals, the term means “good” or “prefect mammals”) that characteristic of Eurasia, North America, and Africa. This simple idea does not fit the facts. Given what we know about the development of anatomical structures in the course of evolution, there is no conceivable scenario in which monotremes could have given rise to marsupials and eutharians.
The anatomy and physiology of all living mammals testifies to their origin from reptiles. The egg laying habit of the monotremes is a notable reptilian feature that has been retained in a group of mammals, so is the presence of an interclavicle and a pair of epicoracoids in the shoulder girdle. However if by some quirk of history, the classification of animals had originated in Sydney and not Athens some 2000 years ago, egg  laying would have been regarded simply as another way in which mammals produce young, and what is cited as a ‘reptilian’ shoulder girdle would have been seen as a structure common to some mammals and reptiles…”

Goddamnit. If there is a heaven, screw the virgins and the harps; I’d better be able to watch all mythical 7+ seasons which should have existed of this show.

My picture review of tonight’s episode of “True Blood”.

Still my favorite bit of Louis CK.

Though I’m firmly on the Sheldon side of that epic battle…  I can appreciate a good find, even if it was by Wesley Crusher.

Sometimes, it really is the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

My grandfather raised me my entire life, he homeschooled me in elementary school, and to help me remember my multiplication tables, he would makes rhymes for each one: 6x7=42 rhymes with I love you. You better believe I never forgot. I took this picture with my homeschool certificate and you can see why underneath my grandfather’s signature. He passed away in 2009 and will be in my heart forever. He was my hero.
